The name means " going towards the sea ". Changjiang (River Yangzi) throw itself into the sea not far from there. Biggest city of China, more than 14 million inhabitants, extends over 6340 km. Economic and financial centre of China, 15 % of the national industrial production comes from Shanghai. The city knows an extraordinary development since the 90s: new constructions of shopping centres and peripheral highways
Shanghai is strewed with skyscrapers extreme reactionary modern dedicated to offices or private housing, varied in their architecture and well arranged in the townscape today. If it stays of numerous districts with dense houses or blocks without style inherited from the years 60/70, the Chinese old town was protected for the biggest pleasure of the western tourists.
The modern department stores look like those of the big western cities, because we meet only working, walking or purchasing Chinese there. Traced on this model, numerous big cities of China, often localized in the special economic zones, demonstrate the vitality of these people and its desire to catch up very quickly the most modern nations.
