The university of Vina del Mar (UVM), renown and recognized abroad for its programs, touches the Pacific Ocean. The sight is there impregnable. Its organization is rigorous. Everything is available on the spot: videos, computers room, internet, emails, sports center, and much more, to discover on the spot.
Tuition Programs

- For upper intermediate levels and up, possibility for a co-op program (Internship), training in a Chilean company
- Academic year / semester / trimester: school material (100$US payable on the spot). A test will determine your level.
- Beginner to intermediate level students: private course (180 hours) distributed over the period. 12 assigned credits.
- Upper Intermediate to advanced level students (140 hours), 2 choices proposed on the spot:
2 - 1 intensive Spanish and Chilean culture program ( 9 credits) from intermediate to advanced level reviewing
- Intensive Spanish and Chilean culture (90 hours, 6 credits)
- Spanish writing and composition (46 hours, 3 credits)
2 - 2 Spanish Conversation & Latin American/Chilean Culture Program (9 credits) from advanced to superior levels reviewing - Spanish conversation & Chilean culture (64 hours, 4 credits)
- Strategies for communication: grammar and composition (46 hours, 3 credits)
- Latin American cultural Perspectives (32 hours, 2 credits).
Upper intermediate to superior level students can attend the UVM regular or general courses (Number of credits depend of the number of courses students attend at the UVM).

Group summer or winter course: 4 weeks. 8 students per class. 20 lessons per week including grammar, conversation and culture. For advanced level, courses about literature, history and economy. 2 outgoing activities will be organized by the University: one in Valparaiso, patrimony of the humanity. The other one in Isla Negra where Pablo Neruda's house will be visited. The activities will be different according to the season. In Chile the seasons are inverted with regard to the north (USA or Europe).

Our greeting families are recruited with great care. The criteria of selection are very rigorous and each family must satisfy a precise schedule of conditions: excellent morality, desire to communicate with their host, satisfactory social standing. We should specify that the families will only speak with you the language of the country where you will be. It is the principle of the immersion courses!

ACADEMIC YEAR / SEMESTER

International students may design their own Academic Year or Semester Study Abroad Program and attend classes with their Chilean peers. Students can choose from a wide variety of disciplines that include many areas of academic studies.
The academic programs allow students to choose from a wide range of disciplines that include areas of administration and economics, agriculture, education, public relations and journalism, humanities and engineering, Art and Design, Social Sciences among others.

1. University Spanish & Latin American/Chilean Culture Courses intended for International Students.
1.1. International Students who do not meet the language requirements cannot take regular courses at the UVM due to the fact that the majority of the UVM courses are in Spanish. Thus, the International Office offers the following an "Intensive Spanish & Chilean Culture Program : From Beginning level to Intermediate level" .
1.2. International Students who do meet the language requirements can take UVM regular courses and participate in one of the two Spanish & Latin American/Chilean Culture Programs offered by the University.
2. University General Courses intended for International and Chilean UVM Students.
International students can take university general courses from the study areas offered by the UVM. General courses stand alone and provide an international student with a broad knowledge of and competency in an area outside the student’s major.
3. University Regular Courses intended for International and Chilean UVM Students.
International students can take university regular courses (career-oriented courses) from the different study areas offered by the UVM. |
