What to see and what to do

In Beijing, it is necessary to see the Forbidden City which is now opened to visitors, the Ming tombs, the imperial palace of summer, the parks, the Tienanmen Square and the temple of the Sky. However, it is literally impossible to go around the Great Wall of China. Chendge, in the mountains, and the ranges of Dalian on the peninsula of Liadong propose escapades for the vacationers. Harbin, in Mandchourie, close to Russia, and Huhhot, the capital of Meng-ku (or Inner Mongolia), draws an interesting and colored circuit. Shangai is famous for its commercial effervescence, and  its museums of the Teapots. Hangzhou is known for its crowned places and Qingdao, for its famous brewery. It is necessary to see Suzhou, the old imperial city, and its pretty gardens, its artisanal life and its many channels. With Guangzhou or (Canton) one will appreciate the kitchen, the museums, the temples, the neighbouring mountains and the thermal spas. Guilin, its mountains and its rice plantations, are worth a trip by themselves.  The same for Chengdaou, for its temples of the Tang dynasty, which offer many antique and archeological sites; including the 6000 soldiers from the tomb of Qui Shi Huangdi.  In the North, Landzhou and Dunhuand, 2000 years old, propose a magnificent view.

 Handicraft

Chinese calligraphies are very delicate, and ink works are often are very inspired. In scarf or costumes, silk is made of excellent quality, same thing goes for paper. The wool of Meng-Ku is very appreciated. Chinese food is very diversified, and one will take pleasure to test the regional specialties from Pekinese, tangerines to Cantonese You will be able to bring back with you: Silk, porcelain, sculptures out of ivory, toys out of wood and bamboo, stag-wheels, puppets, ceramics, tea, lacquer... from the stores of the Friendship and on the markets.

 Location

Covering a significant part of Eastern Asia, China shares its borders with 14 countries; to the East the  littoral Pacific extends to thousands of kilometers. Two thirds of China is made up of high altitude areas. The mountains of the South-West are formed around the Tibetan Plate; in the North-West, those of Tien Shan separate the basin of  Tarim from the basin of  Djoungarie. Two thirds of the population is concentrated in the South-east plains. The surface of China is 9.596.960 km2

The Forbidden City

With a population of almost 19 million, the towns of Beijing and Tianjin seem like provinces. Beijing is the capital and the political center of China. Peking, whose name means "capital of the North " is an old carefully preserved imperial city and an industrial and commercially modern town . The city is 16 810 km2 long.
In its broad rectilinear streets circulates bicycles, buses, trucks and pedestrians (the practically unknown "personal" car in China is slowly starting to see the day). The main administrative buildings are located in the Zhongnanhai park. Peking has more than 50 schools and university establishments, such as the university of Peking and the Quinghua university. The factories, located in the suburbs, transform and refine iron and steel. However, the city has a great historical and cultural importance.  In its center, the Tienanmen square (Place of the Celestial Peace) covers 40 hectares, which is one of the largest in the world. On the Western side of the square is the palace of the Assembly of the people

Tienanmen Square

In the south, we find the solid mass of Mao Zedong. Beyond the gate of the Meridian in the north, we penetrate in the Prohibited City "Wui" being the most imposing group of traditionally styled  Chinese buildings, in particular, the house of the Supreme Harmony (formerly known as the throne room of Chinese emperors), and the palace of the celestial purity, where the emperors had state business.

Towards the north is Jing Shan, sometimes called park of the mountain of Coal, with the Thousand Spring house, where we have a splendid sight on the gilded roofs of the Forbidden City. Among the parks of Peking, some are old imperial private gardens; the most significant one is the temple of the Sky. In the middle of the 15th century, it was in old temples were  prayers for good harvests (Qiniandian) have take place.

The Great Wall of China

The Great Wall of China curves around mountains 80 kilometers from the north of the city. The road on it travels throughout the valley of the Thirteen Tombs containing the imposing mausoleums of the Ming emperors. The summer palace of imperator Ci Xi (Tseu-Hi), which reigned on China from 1861 until its death in 1908, is in the north-western suburbs of the city. There is also a whole set of houses, rooms and pagodas of the 19th century dispersed around artificial lakes. The Great Wall of China is the only man-made construction visible from
the moon.
